My friend brought a Instyler. I have used a Chi for 10 years and swear on it, but thought I would try to find out what all the hype was about. It fried my hair and didn’t make my hair straight at all. It was all frizzy. I know how to use tools and found this one hard to handle and it felt cheap. My friend hated it and thought it was her, but after using it told her it was the appliance not the user. Used my Chi to straighten her hair and she went out the same day and bought one and is taking her Instyler back to the store where it came from. Save your money and buy a good quality flat iron instead.

I have only used my instyler a couple of times, and am returning it tomarrow. I am glad I bought it at walmart so it will be no hassle to return it at all. It’s a good enough product. It does straighten my hair well (long, thick hair with natural wave). I was impressed at how fast I got my hair done, but really it isn’t $100 impressive. I’d say it’s $50 impressive, and if they ever go down to that price or lower I’ll buy another. So if you’ve got a hundred bucks to blow then it is does a fine job, but if you are like me and on a super tight budget you will more than likely feel guilty for spending that much money on something that doesn’t WOW you like expected (my $30 straight iron delivers the same results). My advice if you want to check it out is to buy one at walmart or walgreens, no shipping costs, and the easier to return if you do not want to keep it.

Another reason I’m returning it is because I’ve read a whole bunch of reviews saying that they break easy, that is disturbing for me to see. If you pay that much for something it should last much longer than a few months. I figure I’ll return it now, because if 3 months from now it breaks on me and I can’t return it, I’ll feel so ripped off.

First of all, get it at a store (sorry, Amazon!). Makes returns far easier.

Bottom Line at the Top: You can buy a good curling iron AND a good flat iron for the price of this ONE equally damaging, awkward, not-so-versatile, breakable thing. Reviews show that it does a good job on coarser hair that needs the bristles but if you can detangle your hair with a normal brush, this thing is pointless.

Awkward + heavy. Not sure why this thing is promoted as “the tool that won’t damage your hair like regular hot irons”. It’s HOT! And b/c it’s maybe not as hot as most, you have to go slower and more than once on smaller sections. Isn’t that the same? Or worse? My wavy/curly/frizzy fine-but-voluminous hair remains quite frizzy at the ends no matter what I do. Hair looks like a used up broom. Forget about the curling -waves, at best. No traction for thinner bangs. The only thing I can say is that my hair seems a bit less susceptible to humidity and thus, the style lasts longer (even till I wash despite sleeping on it or breaking a sweat on a hot day). HOWEVER, I think it does that by DRYING IT OUT (which explains why my split-ends got worse). I really do not see that “polish” or “shine” they rave about. And your hair has to be completely dry. Well, if I blow-dry my hair, I can often do a good enough job to use my usual straight-iron as a touch up – saving on damage and leaving in more bounce. You can’t do that with this sucker. It’s not a touch-up tool. And the motor is flimsy. Would surely break in no time if I didn’t return it.

I purchased the Instyler from Amazon. I was really happy with the way it styled my naturally-curly hair. I could wear a relaxed do which garnered many compliments. However, the Instyler began to malfunction. I called Instyler as instructed in the warranty. I was told that if I purchased the product from Amazon it was not covered under the warranty. Amazon is NOT AUTHORIZED to sell the product. Instyler covers only products purchased directly from the company, from the TV station, or from a store (I assume that means a building you can visit). The service person even suggested that it could be a “knockoff”. I told her it had all the authentic documentation; she had no comment on that. My Instyler cannot be repaired, and my $80 is gone along with my hopes of a straighter more flattering hair style. Sarah Capponi

this is okay… not as i thought it would be, i don’t use it anymore because i dont feel it does anything for my hair… my hair doesnt come out straight down and silky like the informercials … i always have to restraighten with my normal flat iron…it did make alot of noise-but that didnt really bother me..overall its not that great, but i guess it depends on your hair type..
