I bought the 24 piece kit of this same trimmer model at [...] for about $27, including shipping. So far they work very well. I have extremely fine and thick hair and these clippers cut right through it without a problem. I use the #8 on the crown, the #6 for the middle and the #4 for the sides (blending the sections in with the taper tool and “rocking it out”), and the #1 to clean up the back and around the ears (I never bother with the ear tapers) in addition to just the bare razor to round it off on the neck.

When I’m done doing all of that I wet my hair and whip out the scissors to finish the top with a nice point-cutting (taking out a few mm chunks off of the hair using your fingers to not cut it too far down and in at a very slight angle) to give it some attitude and dimension because it just looks wrong all precisely one length on the longer cuts, you NEED to do this to not make it look like you did it yourself – trust me, my former stylist did this every time and it truly does make a difference.

I can’t comment on the other guide combs or accessories because I haven’t used them yet. However, the guide combs do NOT fit snugly over the clipper and this is why they are reportedly “loud” and rattle. It’s not a huge deal, but does merit knocking off 1 Star as they should fit the clippers properly and this might also be why some people report the guides bowing and breaking if not handled with utmost care during their use. And that is the second reason I have taken a star off, because the guides are pretty flimsy and most likely will break at some point if handled roughly. But, for $10 or so you can replace the lot of them – not such a big deal.

On the other hand, I’m disappointed that the #10 and the #12 guide combs are not included in the higher priced kits as they only cost Wahl approximately 25 cents to make and SHOULD be included, if only as a courtesy to the ladies. It costs almost $20 with the shipping to order them from Wahl’s site, and just as much if not more elsewhere (shipping is way more expensive than the items and is almost not worth it).

They also only supply you with a tiny little bottle of clipper oil that most likely won’t last you more than 3 months of cutting your hair every 1 – 2 weeks, as you do with shorter cuts like what this provides. As far as I can tell it’s just your standard mineral oil that you can pick up a huge bottle of at any grocery store or pharmacy for just $1, but which Wahl wants to sell to you at $5 for just a few ounces!

Overall this is a fine economy haircut kit that can save you hundreds of dollars a year and pays for itself in three to five uses, depending on what you paid for it. Just don’t buy this (or any other clipper kit) and expect to be able to do it just like the pros. It takes a lot of practice to get it just right and also to get to the point of being able to do the fancy stuff! Be prepared for your haircuts to suck for a while when you start doing it yourself, especially the back.

For the price you can not go wrong for a set of clipper. The clipper was shipped on time and was delivered faster then most other shipper.

I purchased these clippers about 5 months ago to start cutting my own hair. I got about 6 good haircuts with it, but unfortunately ran into one large issue. The more I used it, the gradually harder it was to move the power switch on and off. Eventually, the power switch jammed completely, and I was no longer able to turn the thing on. I sent the clipper to Wahl to get it repaired, paying around 15 dollars for shipping, and got it back around 2 weeks later. I used the clippers twice since then, and now the power switch is back to being jammed. This thing is no better than a paper-weight to me now. I really regret purchasing this clipper, and will be purchasing a new pair from a different brand sometime very soon.

Works very well, small trimmer is excellent. One downside is attachments do not have small bag to hold them. Overall well worth purchase.

I’ve been using a discount store set of clippers that I paid $12 for to cut my husband’s hair for the last couple of years, so I am definitely no professional in critiquing clippers. But I used this tonight (after properly oiling the blades) and WHAT A DIFFERENCE! In one easy stroke, all the hair pieces were cleanly sliced off, as opposed to my previous clippers that took 4 or 5 strokes. It’s powerful and heavy duty. There are more than enough clippers attachments, and the scissors were even super sharp and useful. I can’t get over how inexpensive this investment was for such a great product. Thank you again Amazon!
